During the course of his investment banking career, Jim has represented privately-owned middle-market companies throughout the United States and Canada. As a seasoned business owner, Jim brings a unique perspective to every engagement he works on. He is passionate about helping each and every business owner design new and valuable options to prepare themselves and their business for a successful transition of ownership. In addition, Jim works closely with a select group of private equity investors and entrepreneurs to help them design and implement successful targeted acquisition programs. Jim became an investment banker in 2002 after selling his interest in the management consulting firm he founded in 1991. Before founding that firm, Jim held senior level management positions in the Management Consulting Division of Ernst & Young and in the Information Technology Division of Hallmark Cards, Inc. Before joining MidCap Advisors, Jim was a principal at Dovetail Business Advisors, a full-service mergers & acquisitions firm located in Kansas City, MO. Prior to that, Jim was a Managing Director with a national mergers and acquisitions firm that specialized in representing manufacturing, business service and transportation companies. Jim has extensive experience working with senior level management of both public and private corporations. Jim's professional yet relaxed style makes him equally comfortable in the board room or on the manufacturing floor. His 30 years of experience give Jim a practical, insider's understanding of many industries including manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceuticals, banking, mutual funds, telecommunications, technology services, government and higher education. Jim is an active member of several national and regional business associations as well as serving as President of the Kansas City Business Broker's Association (KCBBA). Jim has also devoted significant time and resources to serving his community including serving as a City Council Member and as the Mayor of the city in which he and his family have lived. Jim earned his Executive Fellows Masters in Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a Licensed Realtor, a Certified Machinery & Equipment Appraiser (CMEA) and a Certified Senior Business Analyst (CSBA). Jim, his wife Laura, and their two children live in the Kansas City metro area. In his spare time, Jim enjoys traveling, golfing, motor boating, water skiing, and attending his children's sporting and extracurricular events.
