Steve Smith brings over 25 years of professional sales, marketing and general business management experience to the table when working with clients. During his career, Steve has negotiated or arranged dozens of successful transactions for clients in a variety of industries, including distribution, manufacturing, business services, specialty retail and telecommunications. His many years of M&A experience include founding The Waterfront Group, a regional M&A firm based in San Francisco.

Steve enjoys working with clients on both buy-side and sell-side engagements. His advisory work extends beyond business transfers to include succession planning as well. His primary goal is to structure the right solution to meet each client's objectives. This may involve implementing recommended value enhancements, removing impediments prior to the sale, or minimizing the client's tax impact.

Prior to founding The Waterfront Group, Steve held a number of management positions in sales and marketing at several Fortune 500 telecommunications and technology companies in the Bay Area.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. In addition, Steve holds the Merger and Acquisition Master Intermediary designation from the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA). He is an IBBA Certified Business Intermediary (CBI), and a California licensed real estate broker.

A California native, he and his family have been residents of the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 40 years.
